Tenant screening
Don't guess who you're renting to
TenantAssist integrates with TransUnion SmartMove and Plaid so you can run a full screening without copying data between systems. Reports usually land in minutes, and you can pass the cost to the applicant.

TransUnion SmartMove
The gold-standard for US landlords. Runs a true credit report (not just a soft pull), national criminal search, and eviction records going back seven years.
- ResidentScore — a model tuned for rental default risk
- National criminal background search
- Eviction records across 28M+ records
- Income insights (optional add-on)
- FCRA-compliant adverse action letters
You link your SmartMove account once; TenantAssist then deep-links each applicant's screening from within the landlord dashboard.
Plaid Identity & Income
For applicants who can't or won't share pay stubs — gig workers, self-employed, or just privacy-conscious — Plaid verifies identity and 90 days of deposits by connecting their bank in a few taps.
- Identity match: legal name ↔ bank of record
- 90-day deposit history with average monthly income
- Read-only bank link; no credentials leave Plaid
- Great for ruling out fake pay stubs
How it works inside TenantAssist
Step 1
Invite applicant
Send a TenantAssist application link. They fill basics (name, DOB, SSN stays with the screening partner).
Step 2
Pick a screening
Choose SmartMove (credit/criminal/eviction), Plaid (identity + income), or both.
Step 3
Applicant pays
By default the applicant covers the $25–$40 screening fee. You can toggle landlord-paid per property.
Step 4
Results in dashboard
Scores and reports show up inside the applicant’s profile — next to their income docs and references.
Ready to stop renting blind?
Screening is included on every TenantAssist plan — you only pay the per-applicant fee (or pass it to the applicant). No contracts, no minimums.
